What exactly does Courageous Basketball do?
We work with coaches to create a custom set of metrics based on the team’s developmental goals. These metrics can include traditional stats like rebounds, assists, and steals, or custom metrics like defensive rotations, communication, screen assists, and hustle plays. Each week, coaches receive a comprehensive report outlining the team’s performance. Over the course of the season, coaches will be able to see meaningful and tangible improvements for the team. At season’s end, coaches will also receive a complete report for each individual player.
Why track analytics at the youth level and what difference does it actually make?
Youth basketball has a problem: the current culture incentivizes scoring, highlights, and winning above all else. While scoring and winning remain important, this dynamic creates one-dimensional players who end up struggling when they reach higher levels.
By tracking metrics at the youth level, we create a counter-balancing incentive structure where players develop well-rounded skill sets early. The result? Players who value their role in team success, communicate better on the court, and build habits that translate to competitive basketball at any level.
In our pilot program, we tracked a youth boys and girls team across an entire season. The results? Assists increased 92%, passes more than doubled (one team saw a 517% increase), and offensive rebounds increased 67%-107%. Even team scoring improved significantly (61%) - proving that when players value the complete game, everyone wins.
And the best part? Coaches didn't need to constantly remind players to "play the right way." When players saw their contributions recognized and celebrated, they built an internal motivation to play differently.
